Dear Friends,
I hope this email finds you well and in good spirits. If you could take the time to read the following message it would be greatly appreciated. The city planners of Pichilemu want to transport all of the cities raw sewage directly into the ocean. Their plan is to build a pipe which will send the non treated sewage only 1.5 km from the Pichilemu shore. For those of you that have been here, the proposed pipe will be located on Pichilemu’s main beach and continue directly out to sea. There is no telling how this new construction will effect the sand bank which helps to bring surfers and windsurfers from all over the world. But more importantly, there is no way to know how damaging this could be to the local aquatic environment which the people of Pichilemu have come to rely on. A great number of people here are trying to stop this action as we feel there are better alternatives. One of which is to build a processing plant which will enable us to return the treated water safety back into the natural environment and create a viable solution to protect one of Chile’s best waves.
This is what we are requesting of you. Please send us your comments or concerns about this crises. The experience of many people who have visited Pichilemu was undoubtedly benefitted by the areas’ pristine natural environment. This current plan threatens to harm our local coastline as well as our reliance on tourism. If you could take the time to express your thoughts from a tourists perspective they will be presented through the proper channels. In other words, how do you choose where to travel. Would you go to a place that had a reputation of unhealthy water. How would you first feel about being informed that this pipe carried the town’s black water directly into the bay in which you wish to swim…etc? We are looking for an outsiders perspective. Time is of the essence and your ideas will help provide us with proof that the outside world is paying attention to this matter. Thanks in advance for your reply.
Also: Tipp los!

Dear ladies and gentlemen,
I heard about your plans concerning the pipeline. I´ve been in Chile last year as an exchange student and I´ve visited many times Pichilemu with many friends to surf, to swim or just to enjoy the beautiful coastline.
Your plans would destroy these possibilities. Furthermore it will harm the environment. Thus your plans are irresponsible. I think you´ve only considered the results of your acting in a short term. You want to save the money for building a cleaning plant. But by the way I think that the realisation of these plans would harm the Region around Pichilemu economically. So saving the money for constructing a plant may save you money for a very short time period. But very soon you will loose lots of money, because tourist will stop to come and you will be held responsible for the damage you will cause.
So please reconsider your plans
Sincerely
Tim Kallas

Mahlzeit,
Gruss,
Raoul
